Blurb:

Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?

My Rating:

My Review:

Alexa has been keeping secrets for years, but suddenly she finds that her secrets not the as well kept as she thought. With two guys gunning for her attention, she must fight to not only save Damian, but to save them all from a fate worse than death.

I have told my mother-in-law many times that if an Apocalypse ever happened in my lifetime, I would disguise myself as a man. When she asks me why - I explain that if I were women at the end of the world, men would be more violent towards me. Raping and beating would happen if a woman was found. I mean when you think about it, these things could happen - as even now - people are getting away with rape. SO - yes, I would hide that I was a female in order to protect myself. When I saw that the main character does exactly that - I just had to read this book. I was not disappointed.

Alex is strong, independent, and one the best fighters that Damien has on his patrol. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was because I kind of wish that when her secrets were revealed there was more of a shock. Other than that - I loved this book with all the fighting and romance.
